3 Major Post-Construction Cleaning Phases

April 6, 2022

Construction projects produce a lot of dust and debris that accumulates on the site. Allowing debris to accumulate in the construction site may affect the final construction stages like painting. Furthermore, dust may affect your indoor air quality and make your rooms appear dull.

Most times, construction workers don't clean up the site once the project is done. Moreover, if you let your workers clean up the site during construction, this project may take too long to finish. For this reason, you may need to hire post-construction cleaning workers. These professionals have the necessary skills and equipment to clean your building after construction.

Read on to understand the three major post-construction cleaning phases.

1. Rough Cleaning

When your workers are about to finish the construction process, you need to call your cleaners to the site. This way, your cleaners will get familiar with the environment and plan on how they will start the cleaning process.

As soon as your workers finish all the framing, plumbing, and wiring work, the cleaners will start by removing all construction leftover materials. Your cleaners will also sweep the floor and remove stickers from your windows and doors.

The main aim of this cleaning phase is to declutter the construction site. After rough cleaning, your construction workers may move on to painting and installing your cabinetry and flooring. Therefore, your cleaners don't need to clean your building thoroughly at this stage since it will still get dirty.

Rough cleaning is an important phase since your cleaners can catch cracks or defects in your structure and report them to your construction company. This way, your contractor can address the issues before they advance.

2. Light Cleaning

Light cleaning, also known as thorough cleaning, is the longest and most tiring cleaning process among the three phases. This process entails repeating all the cleaning activities in the first phase. Afterward, your cleaners will use essential cleaning tools such as neutral cleaning detergents and microfiber towels to clean your building thoroughly.

Cleaners usually pay extra attention to the rooms that serve specific functions like the kitchen, bedroom, and toilets during light cleaning. When cleaning these areas, your cleaners mostly concentrate on the newly installed equipment like toilet seats, kitchen sinks, and cabinets.

Other areas normally cleaned during light cleaning include:

  • Baseboards
  • Doors
  • Windows
  • Glass areas

Additionally, your cleaners may polish your floor using appropriate substances to make your floor shiny. For instance, if you have a marble floor, your cleaners may use water and baking soda. On the other hand, if you have a concrete floor, your cleaners may use colloidal silica.

Finally, your cleaners may also use a pressure washer to spruce up the exterior of your building. After this cleaning phase, you can move into your space.

3. Touch-Up Cleaning

Touch-up cleaning is the final cleaning phase usually done several days after light cleaning to allow dust to settle. This way, your cleaners can easily determine the areas that need more attention.

This cleaning phase is usually quick since it only involves clearing fingerprints and streaks. Touch-up cleaning also involves cleaning the areas that were not cleaned properly during the first and second phases. During this stage, your cleaning company may only send a few workers since all the hard work is already over.

Sometimes, people prefer doing touch-up cleaning on their own. However, this alternative is not the best since you may not have all the necessary equipment to clean your space. In this case, some things may not get optimally clean. Moreover, you may forget to clean hidden areas like your air ducts, exposing you and your family members to an unnecessary risk.

Post-construction cleaning is an important step to make your building ready for occupation. If you've recently finished constructing or renovating, contact Cleanstar National, Inc., for professional post-construction cleaning.
